I had the opportunity to work as a production at John Masters Organics in San Francisco during the summer of 2017. Expecting more of an internship, I was pleasantly surprised with how much responsibility I ended up having. The main designer took leave for health reasons and I had to step up and fill in some responsibilities that were definitely out of my comfort zone. My main responsibility was to update all their old bottle designs and create files for every scew in English and Japanese. I also ended up following the creation of the aromatherapy from concept, to proofs, and then to final design. Furthermore I designed the limited edition Honolulu Lib Calm for their new Honolulu store.
I learned what exactly a "production artist" means as a job, especially in the context of a beauty company like John Masters. I improved my attention to detail and work process to make sure every die line, leading, type size, copy, ingredient list, was perfect. Furthermore, I was exposed to the work flow and environment that a big company like this creates. I was forced out of my comfort zone and it helped me grow as a designer while making me more confident in my skills in Adobe Illustrator.
