Magazine design technology
For my Magazine Design Technology class, we were given the opportunity to create an 8 page magazine, including a cover, masthead, table of contents, two department pages, a feature spread, and back page ad. I chose to create a magazine called “VYNL” that focused on youth culture and music, incorporating my own original written content, pictures, cohesive branding, and all while maintaining my overall vision for the “forefront of youth culture and music” that is VYNL magazine.
I further developed my skills in design principles, color, typography, and overall print design. I learned the importance of file prep from the beginning of the design process and how combining design with proper file hygiene makes the process overall so much easier and results in a beautiful product. Going through critiques and natural evolution of the design process has helped me learn more about how much goes into creating an effective editorial while considering my target audience, design vision, and cohesive goal for my magazine. I realized how much I enjoy designing for print, especially a magazine that inspires me.
